ROHINGYA BENEFIT
Project Details:
Nearly a million of Rohingyas, described by UN as the most persecuted minorities of the world, are forced to flee Myanmar and seek refuge in Bangladesh. The United Nations described the Myanmar military offensive as a “textbook example of ethnic cleansing”. Thousands of Rohingyas were killed, according to Doctors Without Borders. Women and girls were raped and abused, says Amnesty International. The atrocities, including mass killings, sexual violence and widespread arson amount to crimes against humanity, according to Human Rights Watch.
This humanitarian crisis is causing suffering on a catastrophic scale. Here is a short video clip by the UN “The Rohingya Crisis in 90 Seconds”
In spite of its limited means, Bangladesh has welcomed these refugees with open arms. And International relief organizations are on the ground providing much needed humanitarian assistance. But the need is huge.
SpaandanB Austin and Bangladesh Association of Greater Austin (BAGA) have joined hands to organize a benefit concert “Concert for Rohingya”, to raise funds and awareness for this humanitarian cause.
